Arizona has a flat 2.5% income tax, but your paycheck withholding is the percentage you pick on Form A-4. See how each choice changes your take-home pay.
Estimate only, based on 2026 federal and Arizona rates. Your actual withholding depends on your W-4 and state forms. How we calculate.
Arizona taxes income at a flat 2.5% after the same standard deduction as the federal return: $16,100 for single filers and $32,200 for married couples in 2026.
Withholding works differently from most states. On Form A-4 you choose a percentage of your taxable wages, from 0.5% to 3.5%. If you never submit the form, your employer withholds 2.0%. This calculator shows the withholding for the rate you choose.
Because 2.0% is below the 2.5% tax rate, higher earners on the default can owe a small amount when they file. Arizona has no city income taxes and no state disability payroll tax.
| Item | 2026 amount |
|---|---|
| Flat tax rate | 2.5% |
| Standard deduction, single | $16,100 |
| Standard deduction, married jointly | $32,200 |
| A-4 withholding choices | 0.5% – 3.5% |
| Default withholding | 2.0% |
A flat 2.5% for everyone, in place since 2023.
If your only income is wages, 2.0% often comes close. Higher earners or people with side income may pick 2.5% or more to avoid owing at tax time.
No. Arizona cities do not tax wages.
