Key numbers

  • Minimum wage: $14.00 → $15.00 an hour
  • Tipped minimum wage: $11.98 an hour
  • Next change: January 1, 2028, based on inflation

Florida's minimum wage rose from $14 to $15 an hour on September 30, 2026. It is the last of the $1 yearly increases required by the constitutional amendment voters approved in 2020.

Tipped workers must now be paid at least $11.98 an hour in cash wages. Employers can count up to $3.02 an hour of tips toward the full $15, as long as total pay reaches the minimum.

How much more workers take home

A full-time employee working 40 hours a week now earns about $31,200 a year, roughly $2,080 more than at the old rate. Because Florida has no state income tax, only federal income tax, Social Security and Medicare come out of that raise.

What happens next

From now on, Florida's minimum wage will be adjusted for inflation instead of rising by a fixed dollar. The state will calculate the new rate in the fall of 2027 using the Consumer Price Index, and it will take effect on January 1, 2028. After that, the rate will change every January 1.

If the federal minimum wage ever rises above Florida's rate, the higher federal rate applies.
